Kyle Walker goes for dinner with former Man City team-mates days before playing against them in emotional Etihad return

KYLE WALKER went for dinner with his ex-Manchester City pals just days before facing them with Burnley.

The England star left City for Turf Moor this summer after eight trophy-laden years at the Etihad.

Walker is in town ahead of a return to his former employers on Saturday afternoon.

He linked up with his ex-City team-mates for Manuel Akanji’s leaving drinks following his loan to Inter Milan.

Bernardo Silva, Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, Mateo Kovacic, Savinho and Phil Foden all attended the dinner, as well as Rodri, Tijjani Reijnders, Rico Lewis, Stefan Ortega and Omar Marmoush.

The players dined at Fenix in Manchester, a Greek restaurant where main courses can cost up to £65 for a Wagyu stifado.

Walker was seen heading to the restaurant wearing a black baseball cap, grey cardigan on top of a white t-shirt, with grey trousers and trainers.

Foden, meanwhile, wore a tweed jacket and black trousers with a chain around his neck.

Winger Savinho went for a casual look of white t-shirt, baggy jeans and white trainers.

Walker won six Premier League titles, six domestic cups and the Champions League with City but his time with the Sky Blues ended on a sour note.

Last season, Walker was voted as City captain by his team-mates before telling Pep Guardiola he wanted to leave midway through the season.

He was sent on loan to AC Milan for the second half of the season before selling him to Burnley for around £5m this summer.

Man City boss Guardiola drops X-rated interview after Arsenal draw

Guardiola took a swipe at Walker in pre-season after announcing Bernardo Silva as his new club captain for the season.

After usually allowing his players to decide the captain, the Spaniard took it upon himself to select his four-man leadership group of Silva, Rodri Dias and Erling Haaland.

He claimed he “didn’t like what happened” after Walker was named captain before leaving on loan.

Guardiola said: “I’m the manager. This season, for the first time in my career, I decided it would be my captain.

“I didn’t like what happened last season and I decided this season who will represent the team.

“Sometimes I want to be the boss, and this season I decided to do it, so I chose the four captains and at the end of the Club World Cup, maybe we will choose one or two more.”

Walker has played in all five of Burnley’s first games back in the Premier League, playing every minute under boss Scott Parker so far.

He played a total of 319 times for City, scoring six times, after joining from Tottenham in 2017.
