Jose Mourinho takes brutal parting shot at Fenerbahce as he admits he made a ‘mistake’

JOSE MOURINHO took a brutal parting shot at Fenerbahce after admitting he made a “mistake” by joining them.

The Portuguese gaffer is back in his homeland after agreeing to take charge at Benfica.

Mourinho replaces Bruno Lage in the capital and will be hoping for better fortunes after a torrid time in Turkey.

The Special One was embroiled in a number of controversies with Fenerbahce’s rivals Galatasaray, as well as Turkish football authorities.

Mourinho was given a four-game ban for “offensive statements” about the levels of refereeing in the nation.

While he also denied Gala’s accusations of making “racist statements” during last season’s derby.

Mourinho parted ways with Fenerbahce when they were knocked out of Champions League qualifying – by his new club Benfica.

Now, the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss has lifted the lid on his time in the Turkish capital.

And he took aim at Fenerbahce by admitting it was a “mistake” to join them.

Mourinho said: “My career so far has been rich; I’ve coached the biggest clubs in the world, in different countries.

“I made the wrong choice. Sometimes I don’t have the right word in Portuguese.

“No regrets, because regrets don’t help us at all in life, but the awareness of what we did well and what we did wrong exists.

Crazy moment Jose Mourinho pinches Galatasaray manager’s NOSE before he falls to ground sparking chaos

“I made a mistake going to Fenerbahce, it wasn’t my cultural level, it wasn’t my football level, it wasn’t my level.

“Obviously I gave everything until the last day. Obviously I had to mourn, like Bruno (Lage) is doing now because nobody likes to leave.

“But coaching Benfica is returning to my level, and my level is coaching the biggest clubs in the world.”
