Jobe Bellingham sent off as nightmare Borussia Dortmund spell goes from bad to worse

BORUSSIA DORTMUND star Jobe Bellingham’s struggles continued in the Bundesliga against Freiburg.

Dortmund visited the Europa-Park Stadion where they drew 1-1 after Ramy Bensebaini’s opener for the visitors was cancelled out by Lucas Holer.

Borussia Dortmund star Jobe Bellingham was sent off at Freiburg
Bellingham saw a direct red card, which added to his struggles at Dortmund

Bellingham, 20, started for Niko Kovac’s side but endured a rough afternoon in Freiburg.

The midfielder was sent off after 53 minutes following an error at the back.

Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel attempted a risky pass to the England Under-21 international who was in a dangerous position.

Freiburg star Philipp Treu sensed the opportunity and got to the ball first down BVB’s half.

Bellingham tried to dispossess Treu but ended up fouling him just outside his penalty area.

The referee deemed the hosts were denied a clear goalscoring opportunity and so Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham‘s brother was shown a direct red card.

Treu would have found himself one-on-one with Kobel if he wasn’t fouled.

The central midfielder followed in his brother’s footsteps by signing for Dortmund in an initial £27million deal from Sunderland last summer.

But the younger sibling has struggled to make much of an impact on the pitch amid continued speculation over difficulties settling in off it.

Bellingham has only managed two assists in 22 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

And now the versatile midfielder looks set for a suspension after his red card at Freiburg.
