Jimmy Sains edges Derrick Osaze by majority decision, retains English title

Jimmy Sains retained his English middleweight title, but the result came under scrutiny after a close, physical fight with Derrick Osaze ended in a majority decision.

Sains was awarded the bout on scores of 97-93 and 96-94, with a third judge scoring it 95-95. The 97-93 card drew criticism from ringside observers who had the fight much tighter, with some favoring Osaze or calling it even.

The 10-round fight was contested at close range with both fighters exchanging throughout. Osaze came forward and kept his output steady, while Sains was required to work off the back foot for extended periods.

Sains relied on straighter, heavier shots and moments of cleaner punching, but he was made to work for position throughout.

There were no knockdowns. Several rounds were difficult to separate, with momentum shifting in small stretches rather than clear swings. Sains appeared to slow in the later rounds, while Osaze also reduced output after sustained exchanges, leaving the final rounds competitive but without a clear break.

Sains improves to 12-0 with the win, making a successful defense of his English title. The performance showed his ability to manage a competitive fight over distance, though he did not separate clearly from an opponent many expected him to handle more comfortably.

Osaze falls to 13-4 but leaves with credit after pushing the unbeaten champion through a demanding 10 rounds. His pressure and work rate disrupted Sains’ rhythm and kept the fight within reach on the cards.

The bout took place on the undercard of the George Liddard vs. Tyler Denny event at the Copper Box Arena in London, promoted by Matchroom Boxing and broadcast on DAZN.
