Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh believes he has one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and though the team has struggled to reach a great deal of success in Justin Herbert’s tenure with the team, he expects that to change in a big way.

While appearing on The Rich Eisen Show recently, Harbaugh discussed having a thought right as he woke up one morning that he must get Herbert into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

“I woke up the other day and said… I gotta get Justin Herbert to the Hall of Fame… must get Justin Herbert to the Hall of Fame”, said Harbaugh.

“You woke up and said that”? asked Eisen.

“Yeah… yeah it’s just one of those things where you wake up at like 3:30… 4 in the morning, sometimes that’s when your best ideas come, and you kind of process that and that would mean winning a couple Super Bowls and there would be a lot of people would benefit from that, so that’s a worthy goal”, said Harbaugh.

Eisen asked if Harbaugh had ever said that to Herbert before and Harbaugh said that he hadn’t and that Herbert is not one for individual accolades and that he would “kick him in the shins” if he ever said that.

It’s a lofty goal for Harbaugh, but he has the belief that Herbert has the physical tools to do it. To this point, Herbert has been let down by the talent around him and that was evident last season as the team just didn’t have enough to keep up with a scrappy Houston Texans squad in the playoffs.

But with the offseason additions of Mike Williams, Najee Harris, Tyler Conklin, Tre Harris, Keandre Lambert-Smith and Oronde Gadsden II, the team believes it is better now than when the 2024 season concluded.

Herbert will be entering year six in the NFL in 2025 and he has yet to win a playoff game. If he is going to reach the Hall of Fame, he has to start changing the narrative this season.
