Jets urged to make massive Garrett Wilson decision amid uncertain future

Jets urged to make massive Garrett Wilson decision amid uncertain future

It hasn’t been pretty for Garrett Wilson and the New York Jets since he entered the NFL. However, that isn’t much of Wilson’s fault, as he’s been one of the better young wide receivers in the NFL. Posting over 1,000 yards in each of his first three seasons, Wilson is a true top option on that side of the football.

He hasn’t been too happy with the Jets’ direction. He’s made that known multiple times, something the front office has to factor in, given he has a contract situation coming up.

That’s why Moe Moton of Bleacher Report urged the Jets to get an extension done now, adding that general manager Darren Mougey should view him as someone he needs to extend.

“Last offseason, the Jets’ previous regime had a messy contract situation with edge-rusher Haason Reddick that resulted in a lengthy holdout. Gang Green’s new administration, led by general manager Darren Mougey, can send a strong message that the team will reward productive players, especially its own talent.

“Mougey told reporters his ‘to-do list is to keep good young players on the team and add good players.’ He can start with extending Wilson, who has racked up 1,042-plus receiving yards in all three of his seasons,” he wrote.

If the Jets don’t plan to extend Wilson, which wouldn’t make much sense, the better idea would be to trade him.

However, giving up on a clear star doesn’t help the Jets get closer to where they need to be.

If the front office is serious about winning over the next decade, it needs to give the Ohio State product whatever he wants.
