The New York Jets added a new quarterback to the roster this offseason, as the team signed Justin Fields to a two-year deal worth $40 million with $30 million guaranteed.
Fields showed a ton of promise in 2024 with the Pittsburgh Steelers, posting a 4-2 record and playing the most efficient football of his career in six starts. However, New York must surround the dynamic signal-caller with capable pass-catchers for him to succeed, and the Jets should look to give Fields a reliable tight end by trading for Baltimore Ravens star playmaker Mark Andrews.
The 33rd Team’s Tyler Brooke listed Andrews as a blockbuster trade candidate.
It might be time for a change of scenery for Mark Andrews. The veteran Baltimore Ravens tight end will be remembered in 2024 for his iconic drop against the Buffalo Bills, but even at 29 years old, the veteran TE had a strong season.
However, that drop has left a sour taste in the mouth of the fanbase, and the Ravens have a pair of younger and promising tight ends on the roster, Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar, who could see bigger workloads in Andrews’ absence. Andrews is a core part of Baltimore’s locker room and leadership structure. It’s not a guarantee that he’ll be traded, but the front office should at least consider it if the right offer comes around.
Andrews disappointed in Baltimore’s playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills, but the veteran tight end quietly had a productive 2024 campaign, hauling in 55 receptions for 673 yards and a career-high 11 touchdowns in 17 games. The 29-year-old has been a pivotal piece to Baltimore’s offense over the last six years, but there’s a chance he played his final game in a Ravens uniform.
Due to the rise of Isaiah Likely, moving on from Andrews has become a move that could make sense for Baltimore, as they already have a younger and more dynamic replacement on the roster and could gain some draft capital by moving on from the three-time Pro Bowler.
If Andrews is on the trade market, the Jets should aggressively pursue him. The 2021 first-team All-Pro selection would be an adequate security blanket for Fields and would take some pressure off star wide receiver Garrett Wilson.
Andrews is set to hit unrestricted free agency next offseason, so there is some risk that comes with trading for him, but it is a move New York should make.
