Jets signing UFL kicker with astounding 95% field goal rate

The New York Jets have added a new kicker to the roster.

According to NFL Draft Diamonds, New York is signing UFL kicker Harrison Mevis, who played for the Birmingham Stallions.

“We are learning the New York Jets are signing kicker Harrison Mevis! Mevis also known as the Thiccer Kicker had a workout last week and absolutely impressed the brass,” NFL Draft Diamonds wrote in their story.

Mevis was arguably the best kicker in the UFL this year, nailing 20-of-21 field goal attempts with a long of 54 yards. He tied for the highest field goal percentage in the league with former NFL kicker Rodrigo Blankenship, who played for the St. Louis Battlehawks.

The addition of Mevis means New York will have a competition in training camp for the kicker spot. Anders Carlson is currently slated to be the kicker, as he performed well in five games with the Jets in 2024.

Caden Davis is also on the roster, but his chances of making the team and being the kicker have plummeted with the signing of Mevis.

Mevis should give Carlson some competition. The Missouri product could be the latest UFL star to make a name for themselves in the NFL, just like Jake Bates did with the Detroit Lions.
