Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck’s road playoff stats are historically bad, but he has shot at redemption

Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck’s road playoff stats are historically bad, but he has shot at redemption

The stats don’t even make sense.

In every other setting, Connor Hellebuyck is the best goaltender on the planet. Put him in any regular season game and he’s an MVP candidate. Put him at home in the playoffs and he pitches a Game 5 shutout vs. the Stars a couple nights ago.

But on the road, in the postseason, Hellebuyck is none of those things. Whether it’s the greatest of flukes or explained by any number of reasons is almost irrelevant at this point.

Up until Saturday’s Game 6 clash with the Stars in Dallas, Hellebuyck has been horrific on the road. And with the Winnipeg Jets down 3-2 in their West semifinal series, that has to change, or all the rest of Hellebuyck’s accomplishments will feel hollow.

Connor Hellebuyck’s road playoff stats

The Winnipeg Jets netminder has been bad for each of the past three postseasons on the road, and even worse in this one.

His cumulative road playoff stats in the last three seasons are as follows:

  • 1-9 record
  • .838 save percentage
  • 4.98 goals against average

Those are made even worse by his 2025 efforts. So far in this postseason, Hellebuyck has these road stats:

  • 0-5 record
  • .793 save percentage
  • 5.84 goals against average

In the first round against the St. Louis Blues, Hellebuyck was pulled in all three road games.

For reference, Hellebuyck’s career regular season stats are a 322-185-44 record with a 2.56 GAA and .918 save percentage.

It doesn’t matter what opposing building is in. Hellebuyck hasn’t found his groove in any road playoff venue.

But a goalie is only as good as his next save. On Saturday night, Hellebuyck hopes to make plenty.
