Jets first-round pick Armand Membou gets $31 million contract update

Jets first-round pick Armand Membou gets million contract update

The New York Jets are working on getting their 2025 NFL draft class under contract and have gotten the job done with their first-round pick, Armand Membou.

The Jets announced on Thursday that they have signed Membou to his four-year rookie contract, which of course includes a fifth-year option because he’s a first-rounder.

According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Membou’s contract is worth $31.9 million. The deal is fully guaranteed and includes a signing bonus of $19.8 million, per Spotrac, and Membou accounts for a cap hit of $5.8 million in 2025.

Over the final three years of the deal, Membou’s cap hits are $7.2 million, $8.7 million and $10.1 million, respectively.

Drafted with the No. 7 overall pick, Membou is expected to man one of the starting tackle spots immediately. He will likely play at right tackle, where Membou played during his days at Missouri. Olu Fashanu should start at left tackle.

“I’m a firm believer that you start it inside out,” head coach Aaron Glenn said after the selection of Membou. “So, if we can build our line, just as much as our defensive line, also, that only helps you as a team. It helps your quarterback, it helps your running backs, it helps your passing game, and it just creates an identity within your team that you’re trying to make sure that every team, when they watch film, they see that.”

While a promising young duo, Membou and Fashanu are unproven, which makes them question marks. Fashanu started in just seven of 15 games last season but surrendered just one sack in 372 pass-block snaps, per Pro Football Focus.

The Jets had major issues along the offensive line in recent years and lost a pair of veteran tackles in Tyron Smith (retirement) and Morgan Moses (signed with New England Patriots), so their significant investments upfront make total sense.

Now, we’ll see if those investments pay off as Justin Fields takes the reins of New York’s offense after the failed Aaron Rodgers experiment.
