New York Jets’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers is on the cusp of reaching a milestone that only four other players have ever known.
The 41-year-old Rodgers has seemingly turned back the clock in recent weeks, totaling 8 touchdown passes and 1 interception over his past four games. With 23 touchdown passes this season, the Jets’ QB1 sits tied with the Green Bay Packers’ Jordan Love and the Kansas City Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes for seventh on the 2024 NFL leader board.
Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP, entered the season with 475 career TD passes. Now, he’s only two away from the 500 mark.
With two more touchdowns through the air, Rodgers would become only the fifth man in history to record 500 career passing touchdowns. The Cal product is on the cusp of joining Tom Brady (649), Drew Brees (571), Peyton Manning (539), and Brett Favre (508) in the exclusive 500 Club.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Rams, who visit MetLife Stadium on Sunday, December 22, have surrendered 23 touchdown passes to opponents this year – a 1.64 per game average.
In terms of Jets’ single-season history, Rodgers needs to average 3 TD passes per game over the final three weeks to break the record that Ryan Fitzpatrick (31) set in 2015.

Although Rodgers has had only two 3-TD pass performances this season, the grizzled veteran claims he’s in his healthiest physical state after fighting through nagging injuries earlier this fall.
“He struggled with injury for a good part of the season and as he’s starting to get healthier, you’re starting to see Aaron Rodgers, the real Aaron Rodgers,” said Jets’ interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich earlier this week.
