Cafu: “Coming for Bam’s Head”
Cafu (11-0-3, 8 KOs) says he’s “coming for Bam’s head” on Saturday because he believes it’ll be difficult for him to win a decision against the Texas native Rodriguez in his home state in front of a large pro-Bam audience in front of 12,000+ fans.
The South African Cafu could be right. The judges aren’t going to do him any favors with a big unification fight already scheduled for Jesse Rodriguez against IBF champion Fernando Martinez on November 22nd in Riyadh. The only way Phumelela wins on Saturday night may be if he knocks out Bam in front of his fans.
Saturday’s fight will be shown live on DAZN. The other interesting fight on the card is #1 ranked WBO super middleweight contender Diego Pacheco (23-0, 18 KOs) facing Trevor McCumby (28-1, 21 KOs) in a 12-round fight.
Cafu vs. Rodriguez Weigh-in Results
- Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodriguez 114.8 vs. Phumelela Cafu – 115
- Diego Pacheco 168 vs. Trevor McCumby 168
“I believe in myself. For me, it took a lot for me to get here. I give Bam credit for giving me the fight, and also, I believe I can beat everyone,” said WBO champion Phumelela Cafu to DAZN Boxing. “Obviously, I know it’ll be hard for me to get the decision here [Texas]. That’s why I’m coming for Bam’s head. I got to make sure I stop him to just to make sure I prove to everyone how great I am.
“He looks focused. I’ve been saying that. He doesn’t think I belong here. Tomorrow, he’s going to see why I am the truth. To everyone back home, I promise I’m coming home with the belt. Lucky for me, it’s my birthday next week. So, I’m going to give myself a birthday present,” said Cafu.
