A heavyweight clash between contenders Jarrell Miller and Michael Hunter is a done deal for September 11th in Las Vegas. This will be part of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford fight week.
Ring Magazine on X reported the news of the Miller-Hunter fight being finalized for September 11th. Miller (26-1-2, 22 KOs) was initially scheduled to fight Jared Anderson, but he pulled out of the match this week. #6 WBA Miller wanted Deontay Wilder to step in as the replacement, but he turned it down.
Hunter’s Return to Relevance
Hunter (24-1-2, 17 KOs) is ranked #1 WBA, #7 IBF. A lot of fans have forgotten about him because he hasn’t fought a notable heavyweight since his 12-round draw against Alexander Povetkin in 2019.
The 2012 Olympian Hunter has stayed busy since, but his opposition has been strictly lower level. That’s prevented him from being seen on major cards. To remain relevant, fighters need to face notable opponents, and Hunter has failed to do that.
Hunter’s Last Seven Opponents
Christian Larrondo Garcia
Cassius Chaney
Ignacio Esparza
Miguel Cubos
Jerry Forrest
Mike Wilson
Shawn Laughery
It’s difficult to predict the winner of the Miller vs. Hunter fight. Miller, 36, hasn’t won a fight in two years and isn’t viewed as one of the top heavyweights in the division. He missed his chance for a big payday against Anthony Joshua in 2019 when he tested positive for a banned substance.
He would have made a lot of money if he had taken that fight, and might have beaten him. Instead, Andy Ruiz took the fight and knocked out AJ. He made millions in his two fights with Joshua.
Canelo vs. Crawford Fight Week
Canelo vs. Crawford fight week undercards are supposed to be used to highlight new talent. Hunter and Miller are older fighters. Turki Alalshikh obviously wants to include notable fighters to get fans to want to tune in to watch the younger talent.
