Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis’s Opponent Drama: Jesus Ramos Reveals ‘BS Offer’ Was Sent to the Wrong Ramos for 154-lb Debut

Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis’s Opponent Drama: Jesus Ramos Reveals ‘BS Offer’ Was Sent to the Wrong Ramos for 154-lb Debut

Junior middleweight contender Jesus Ramos revealed today that Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis didn’t send an offer to him for his October 11th fight. His promoter sent the offer to his uncle, Abel Ramos, who fights at welterweight. Ennis’ team wanted Abel, who has six losses on his resume and is coming off a draw against Mario Barrios.

Wrong Ramos Got the Offer

Had he accepted the offer, Abel would have gone up to 154 to be ‘Boots’ Ennis’s opponent for his debut at junior middleweight at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Instead, he turned it down, and Ennis’ promoter, Eddie Hearn, picked little-known Uisma Lima as his opponent for October 11th.

In an interview today, ‘Boots’ said that the only reason he chose Lima was that he’d made an offer to “Ramos” and Serhii Bohacuk, but the only one that was “available” was Uisma Lima. What Ennis failed to say was that Ramos had been given the offer. Technically, Ramos was offered a fight, but it was the welterweight one, Abel (28-6-3, 22 KOs), who doesn’t fight at 154. Ennis and Hearn were going to use him as the opponent to get acclimated to the 154-lb division.

Jesus Ramos Reveals ‘BS Offer’

Jesus Ramos says Abel was “available” to fight, but he wasn’t going to accept the “BS offer” to fight Ennis with “everything stacked against him.”

Wrong Ramos, he sent my uncle Abel, who fights at 147, an offer to fight at 154. My uncle was available but not for a BS offer with everything stacked against him. He played it smart by just saying “Ramos” though. https://t.co/QGiIJr0CMn

Ennis Defends Opponent Choice

“I was surprised because that’s [Uisma Lima] wasn’t what we wanted. I asked for Ramos, and Bohachuk, and Lima was the only one available that took it,” said Jaron Ennis to YSM Sports Media when asked if he was surprised at the backlash he’s received over the announcement of his October 11th fight against Uisma Lima.

The backlash from fans has been tremendous for Ennis’ decision to fight Lima rather than one of the well-known 154-lb contenders, like Jesus Ramos, Israil Madrimov, Erickson Lubin, and Bohachuk.

“Everybody else was either injured, had a fight coming up, or a mandatory,” said Ennis. “‘m glad Lima took it. He’s a top 10 guy and IBO champion. We’re going to handle him, get him out of the way, and on to the next. We’re going to get busy.

“Even though he’s not known, guys like this, you can’t take lightly. And you got to treat them like a name fighter, and that’s what I’m going to do. I’m going to treat him like a top pound-for-pound King and handle business and be me. He’s going to have 15, 16,000 people going against him [at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia]. It’s a whole different vibe,” said Ennis about Lima fighting in Ennis’ hometown.
