Jamaine Ortiz Predicts Shakur Stevenson Will ‘Easily’ Box Out Teofimo Lopez, Citing Past History

Jamaine Ortiz predicts that Shakur Stevenson will “easily” defeat WBO light welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez if that fight comes off.

Ortiz believes that history will repeat itself with Teofimo (22-1, 13 KOs) having the same problems against Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) as he did against him in their fight last year in February 2024.

Lopez defeated Jamaine by a narrow 12-round unanimous decision. However, he’s a much different fighter than Shakur offensively. Ortiz attacked Teofimo with speedy 3-4 punch combinations thrown with power. Stevenson never fights that way, and he has no power and would get knocked out if he tried.

Teofimo’s Silence on Shakur

Teofimo has gone quiet about the Shakur fight, which means he’s likely studied his last fight against William Zepeda. He saw how the judges did Zepeda, giving him no credit for outlanding Shakur in every round, scoring it as a blowout decision. He’s not going to want to be given similar treatment.

“I think Shakur would win. We know Shakur is a great boxer, and we just seen what I did to Teofimo,” said Jamaine Ortiz to Fighthype, picking Shakur Stevenson to defeat Teofimo Lopez. “I think Shakur would be able to box him out easily. He [Lopez] doesn’t do well historically [against boxers]. History repeats itself.”

Ortiz is dead wrong. Shakur wouldn’t “easily” beat Teofimo Lopez unless the judges who worked his fight against William Zepeda were on duty.

Stevenson’s Vulnerable Stationary Defense

Teofimo would deliver cleaner, harder shots in every round and knock out Stevenson if he chose to fight stationary. He wouldn’t dare fight Lopez the same way he did Zepeda because he knows he hits harder and is more accurate with his punches. The leaning his head over the ropes bit that he used against Zepeda wouldn’t work against Teofimo.

“I can adapt. I don’t only box. If you watch my fight against Lomachenko, I can be an aggressive fighter,” said Jamaine Ortiz about why he believes he could defeat Stevenson. “If you watched my fight against Adorno, I was a very aggressive fighter.”

Jamaine should put Shakur out of his head. If the New Jersey native does move up to 140, it’s only to get a big payday against Teofimo Lopez. Stevenson won’t waste his time fighting someone who won’t provide him that money fight by going up against Jamaine Ortiz or one of the other fighters.

The Zepeda Fight’s Punch Stats

It would definitely be risky for Shakur to fight Jamaine because he can’t punch, and as we saw in his last fight against William Zepeda, his defense isn’t as good as he or his fans think when he’s stationary. Zepeda hit Stevenson over 300 times. The punch stats were way off in that fight, as I counted them myself on the third viewing, and I observed Zepeda landing 453 shots. Most of them were body shots.

It’s just that the judges didn’t factor in the body shots from Zepeda in their scoring. Shakur was also hit a lot in his fights against the electrician Josh Padley and Artem Harutyunyan when he chose to fight in the pocket. The only way he doesn’t get hit is when he’s running. That’s the only time.
