Jalen Brunson may be a Knicks star, but he is a proud Eagles fan. The former Villanova product is always sure to display his Eagles fandom, especially when they go on a run to the Super Bowl.

Of course, that can ruffle some feathers in New York, as many Knicks fans are Giants fans who hate Philadelphia teams. Among those fans is comedian Jon Stewart, who made a bet with Brunson for the NFL season, which Brunson ultimately won.

On Saturday night, with the Knicks hosting the Lakers, Stewart is paying off that bet by wearing a Saquon Barkley Eagles jersey to the game.

Here’s a breakdown of the bet between Brunson and Stewart, dating back all the way to the beginning of the NFL season.

Jalen Brunson-Jon Stewart bet, explained

On September 8, before the NBA season began and as the NFL season was first unfolding, Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart had Jon Stewart as a guest on their “Roommates Show: Block Party” live show. During the show, Eagles fan Brunson made a bet with Giants fan Stewart for when the Eagles and Giants met in the regular season.

The bet went as follows: If the Eagles won, Stewart had to wear a Saquon Barkley Eahles jersey to a Knicks game. If the Giants win, Stewart got to choose a jersey for Brunson to wear when entering the arena before a game.

The Giants and Eagles played twice in the regular season, leaving the door open for a 1-1 record, but it didn’t matter: Philadelphia won both matchups. Therefore, Stewart lost the bet, which he is paying off tonight.

Where is Jon Stewart from?

Stewart is a native New Yorker, having grown up in New York City, and he’s spent most of his life in the area. As a result, Stewart is a fan of all New York sports teams, including the Knicks, Giants, Mets and Rangers.

Where is Jalen Brunson from?

Brunson spent the first part of his life in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, which is located right outside the city of Philadelphia. While he moved a lot as a kid, which includes settling near Chicago for high school, Brunson adopted the Eagles as his favorite NFL team and he remains a proud fan despite playing in New York now.
