Jake Paul Faces Fan Backlash for Calling Out Anthony Joshua, Gervonta Davis, and Gilberto Ramirez After Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Win

Jake Paul Faces Fan Backlash for Calling Out Anthony Joshua, Gervonta Davis, and Gilberto Ramirez After Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Win

Fans are criticizing Jake Paul for naming Anthony Joshua, Gervonta Davis, and the unified cruiserweight champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez as fighters he wants to face next, following his win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last Saturday night in Anaheim, California.

Joshua vs. Paul: A “Circus Fight”?

The idea of Jake taking on former two-time heavyweight champion Joshua brought laughter and disgust from fans. It would be far worse than the circus fight between AJ and the former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou last year on March 8th in Riyadh.

As horrible as that fight was, Ngannou at least had been a combat fighter, albeit in an entirely different sport. Jake is just a YouTuber turned boxer with no true world-class experience. Interestingly, Joshua has expressed interest in fighting Jake, which reveals a great deal about his focus for the latter part of his career.

Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) was hurt repeatedly in rounds nine and ten by the 39-year-old former WBC middleweight champion Chavez Jr. (54-7-1, 34 KOs) after he finally woke up and started throwing punches. Julio had thrown almost no punches in rounds 1 through 8, giving some fans the impression that he was told not to.

Paul’s Junk Food Entertainment

When Chavez Jr. did go on the attack, he had a limited-looking Jake reeling. To say that he exposed Paul is an understatement. He showed that he’s not a world-class-level fighter, and doesn’t belong in the ring against any top-tier fighter from any weight class, even lightweight.

Jake defeated Chavez Jr. by a 10-round unanimous decision by the scores 97-93, 98-92, and 99-91. But the performance was so poor from the 30-year-old Paul that he couldn’t be taken seriously by fans. His fights are the equivalent of junk food entertainment. Digested by fans with no value and immediately forgotten.

“Anthony Joshua excites me. Avenging the Tommy loss excites me. Gervonta excites me. Zurdo excites me. Badou excites me. So, there’s a lot of amazing fights,” said Jake Paul to the media at the post-fight press conference after his win over Chavez Jr., revealing who he wants to fight next.

Ramirez Fight: Sanctioning Concerns

Jake Paul isn’t ranked in the top 15 by any of the four sanctioning bodies at cruiserweight. It’s unclear how a fight between him and WBA and WBO cruiserweight champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez would be allowed by those two sanctioning bodies. But it wouldn’t be a shock if Paul is inserted into the top 15 rankings by one or both of those governing bodies after his win over Chavez Jr. That’s predictable.

“He brought a hard fight at the end, and that’s that Mexican warrior style. I don’t know how he was eating all those punches,” said Paul about Chavez Jr. “My hands hurt from his face. He had good cardio, and he came on strong at the end.”
