Jaime Munguia’s return to training with Eddy Reynoso has drawn immediate reaction, with criticism of Reynoso’s camp carrying into the build for his May 2 title fight against Armando Resendiz in Las Vegas.
Training footage released this week showed Munguia working with pads with Reynoso as preparation begins for his WBA super middleweight title challenge against Resendiz. The clip was intended to signal routine progress in camp, but much of the response focused on the continued scrutiny surrounding Reynoso rather than the work itself.
Reynoso, who trains several high-profile fighters, including Canelo Alvarez, has been the subject of ongoing criticism from sections of the boxing audience following past cases involving fighters from his camp.
Munguia himself returned a positive test in 2025 before being cleared to continue his career, a situation that remains fresh in the minds of fans following his move into a title fight.
Reaction to the training clip reflected that carryover. Some responses focused less on the work shown and more on scepticism tied to those past situations, while others shifted quickly to predictions about how he will perform against Resendiz.
The tone ranged from scepticism about his conditioning to outright predictions of a knockout loss to Resendiz, with little focus on the technical aspects of the footage.
The fight places Munguia at 168lbs against Armando Resendiz, stepping in for the May 2 card in Las Vegas.
It also places him back under Reynoso’s guidance at a time when scrutiny around the camp has not eased, despite no new findings connected to this training period.
For Munguia, the work in the gym is expected to answer questions inside the ring. Outside of it, the reaction suggests those questions have not gone away. Munguia isn’t likely to replace Reynoso with another trainer for this fight to quiet the fan criticism. Eddy helped guide him to victory in his rematch with Bruno Surace last May.
