Jaime Munguia will challenge Armando Reséndiz for the WBA super middleweight title on May 2 in Las Vegas.
Reséndiz is set to make his first defence on the Benavidez vs. Gilberto Ramirez undercard, with Munguia confirmed as the co-main event opponent after negotiations were finalised. Talks for the all-Mexican matchup had broken down earlier this year over financial terms, but the deal has now been completed.
Jermall Charlo had been discussed as an alternative during that period, and reports earlier this week pointed in that direction. Those talks did not result in a fight, with Munguia ultimately securing the shot once terms were resolved.
The matchup brings the card back to its original direction, with a Mexican title fight now in place after a short delay in negotiations.
Reséndiz moves forward with his first defence on a major stage. The opponent is now set.
