Isaac Cruz Risks WBC Interim Light Welterweight Title Against Defensive Stylist Lamont Roach on December 6 in San Antonio

Isaac Cruz Risks WBC Interim Light Welterweight Title Against Defensive Stylist Lamont Roach on December 6 in San Antonio

Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz will defend his WBC interim light welterweight title against Lamont Roach on December 6 on Premier Boxing Champions [PBC] on pay-per-view in San Antonio, Texas.

Roach’s Payday Chase

Roach (25-1-2, 10 KOs), who has parked his WBA super featherweight title while he goes to pick up paydays outside of the division, will be moving up in weight to battle Cruz (28-3-1, 18 KOs).

Why WBA Is Silent

It’s unclear why the World Boxing Association hasn’t already stripped Roach of his title at 130, because this is his second consecutive fight outside of the weight class.

In Lamont’s last fight, he moved up to 135 and battled to a 12-round majority draw against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis on March 1, 2025. It’s great that Roach wants to pick up paychecks, but it’s a rotten deal with the contenders that are waiting for a world title shot in the WBA’s rankings at super featherweight.

Mike Coppinger revealed the news today that Cruz will fight Roach at 140 pounds on December 6. Roach was born in Washington, D.C, and lives in Maryland.

Defensive Puzzle Ahead

Taking on a defensive fighter like Roach could be a problem for ‘Pitbull,’ as he’s going to have to figure out his slick boxing style. It’s unclear if Cruz thought this one out before agreeing to take this fight because it’s a bad style for him. All three of Cruz’s career defeats have come against fighters who have outboxed him. He does better against fighters who mix it up and allow him to use his power game.

Cruz, 27, won the WBC interim 140-lb title on July 19, 2025, beating Omar Salcido by a 10-round unanimous decision in Las Vegas. It was a good performance by ‘Pitbull,’ who looked a lot better than he did a year ago when he was outboxed by Jose ‘Rayo’ Valeznuela, losing a 12-round split decision on August 3, 2024, at the BMBO Stadium in Los Angeles.
