With the Pittsburgh Steelers not having wide receiver George Pickens for a third straight game in Week 16 against the Baltimore Ravens, it was assumed that Russell Wilson would lean on tight end Pat Freiermuth a little bit more.
Freiermuth and Wilson didn’t have much of a connection upon the veteran signal-caller returning from injury in Week 7, but things have picked up as the season has progressed.
In fact, Freiermuth has been a key target for Wilson over the past three weeks, with the tight end tallying 12 receptions for 138 yards and three scores.
However, Freiermuth has not been involved early on in the Week 16 game against the Ravens. Let’s take a closer look at what’s going on with the Steelers’ No. 1 tight end.
Is Pat Freiermuth playing today?
UPDATE: Freiermuth finally has his first target and catch of the game, which came in the second quarter and went for five yards. Baby steps…
END OF UPDATE
Freiermuth is active and in the lineup for the Steelers, he just hasn’t been targeted over a quarter-plus into the game. Wilson has targeted five different players as of this writing, including two other tight ends in MyCole Pruitt, who has a touchdown, and Connor Heyward, who caught a pass for three yards.
Hopefully things will pick up as the game progresses, but Freiermuth’s slow start is a troubling reality for fantasy football managers who have him in their lineup.
