IndyCar star Power leaves Team Penske after 17 seasons

Team Penske has announced it will end its 17-season partnership with double IndyCar champion Will Power now that the 2025 campaign has finished.

Power joined the team in 2009 following his rookie season with KV Racing Technology, and they went on to forge one of North America’s most successful racing partnerships.

It saw Power win the 2014 and 2022 titles, claim 42 race wins including the 2018 Indianapolis 500, plus a record-breaking 71 pole positions.

But the 2025 championship has not been Penske’s best, as Power was its highest-placed driver in ninth while off-track the outfit fired two top executives following a technical breach at Indy.

“It’s been the honour of my life to drive for Roger and the Penske organisation,” said Power.

“We have accomplished so much together, and I will always be grateful for my time with the team and my team-mates who have supported me along the way. After much consideration, I felt like a change for me was the right move at this time.”

It is not yet known where 44-year-old Power will go next, but team owner Roger Penske believes 2026 is the right time for his squad to start afresh.

“As we sat down to talk about our future together, we felt that it was time for him to make a change beginning with next season,” said Penske.

“He has been an outstanding driver and team-mate for our organisation. His results speak for themselves, and we wish him the very best in the phase of his career.”

No replacement driver has been named, but most paddock whispers point to AJ Foyt’s David Malukas, 23, as a potential successor.
