Jarrell ‘Big Baby’ Miller initiated a premeditated-looking theatrical altercation during today’s press conference for WBA interim heavyweight title against #1 Fabio Wardley to promote their June 7th fight at the Portman Road Football Ground, Ipswich in England. Their event will be shown live on DAZN.
Miller (26-1-2, 22 KOs) took a swat at Wardley (18-0-1, 17 KOs) after accusing him of creating a diss track, as if it matters if he did or not. Sounded like some trivial nonsense from ‘Big Baby’ Miller to create some fake hype.
Low-Level Bout
The selection of Miller for this fight seems more based on his name recognition and ability to promote fights with his WWE-esque theatrical presence. He’s top-notch in that area. Other than that, he doesn’t rate to be fighting for the WBA interim belt, but neither does Wardley, who should be starting from the bottom of the WBA rankings due to his lack of credentials.
The real question is, why is Wardley ranked #1 and Miller #4 with the WBA? Wardley, 30, has been operating at the British level his entire career, and he’s not exactly young to be fighting the 36-year-old Jarrell Miller. Wardley’s best wins have come against David Adeleye and Frazier Clarke. Those are British-level heavyweights, NOT world-class fighters.
Miller hasn’t won a fight in two years since stopping then-43-year-old Lucas Browne in the sixth round on March 8, 2023. In Big Baby Miller’s last two fights, he fought to a 12-round draw against Andy Ruiz on August 3rd last year and was knocked out in the tenth round by Daniel Dubois on December 23, 2023.
It’s hard to get excited about the Wardley-Miller fight because it’s such a low-level match. There are far better heavyweights in the top 15 than either of these guys. This fight just looks like some contrived business-level match done with clever promoting and marketing of a poor product. If we were talking about true talent, these two would be at the bottom of the list.
“Ultimately, we’re here to fight. I’m not afraid of no man. I took him on for a reason,” said Fabio Wardley today during the kick-off press conference for his fight against Big Baby Miller on June 7th.
WBA’s Confusion
The winner of the Miller vs. Wardley fight will be in a position to challenge the WBA secondary heavyweight champion Kubrat Pulev, 43, for his belt. Interestingly, the World Boxing Association still hasn’t eliminated their secondary titles, which means this organization has three belts for the heavyweight division:
– Super World heavyweight title
– World aka ‘regular’heavyweight title
– Interim title
