THE Manchester United fan refusing to cut his hair until the team has won five games in a row has opened up on the stunning attack he was subjected to by a fellow fan.

Frank Ilett, who runs the page The United Strand, was in attendance at Old Trafford for the Red Devils’ 2-1 win over Chelsea.

However, while chatting with fans in the concourse, one seemingly disgruntled supporter took things too far.

In a video which went viral on social media, the fan was seen going over to Frank before grabbing his hair and violently yanking it.

He was then heard screaming obscenities at him, including telling him to “f*** off” several times.

Fellow matchgoers were on hand to get between the two, but not before the fan attempted to lunge towards Frank again.

Frank did not appear to be too shaken by the incident on social media posts after the game, revelling in the wet atmosphere at the Theatre of Dreams.

But speaking to SunSport after his ordeal, Frank, 29, has said he hopes the incident was a one-off.

He said: “Yeah, it was a bit weird to be honest. I thought he was just joking to start with, but then he started yanking my hair and calling me an ‘attention-seeking c***’.

“The whole day was full of hundreds of positive interactions yesterday and 99 per cent of all of the reactions to this challenge has been nice. But just a few people can ruin it.

“My intention with this challenge was never to highlight Man United’s flaws. It was always and always will be to spread humour and positivity to United fans in a difficult time.

“I never expected it to go on for so long, but I’m hopeful we can go on a good run soon and I, more than most…want these wins to come as soon as possible.

“I will always try to focus on the positives and hope that this was just a one-off.”

October 5 will mark the one-year anniversary of the challenge.

Frank previously visited Old Trafford in April for the club’s thrilling Europa League quarter-final win over Lyon.

He told SunSport before the season started that dealing with his hair, which was over 18cm long at the start of the campaign, had been tough while living in Spain despite numerous curl cream companies approaching him.

However, he was more than happy to see through his challenge by raising money for MINDUK and spreading some joy over United’s misfortunes on the pitch.

Frank also revealed he has to hit a target of 25cm before he can donate his hair to the Little Princess Trust charity.
