How viral video of Andre Onana was ‘final straw’ for Ruben Amorim and sparked keeper’s humiliating Man Utd exit

ANDRE ONANA’S viral video playing football in Cameroon was reportedly the final straw for Ruben Amorim.

Manchester United have agreed to let the goalkeeper leave in a season-long loan deal to Turkish side Trabzonspor.

It comes after keeper Senne Lammens arrived on deadline day, with Onana failing to feature in the Premier League this season.

Onana, 29, was ruled out of United’s Prem opener with a hamstring problem.

The keeper tore his hamstring on the second day of pre-season.

That came days after he played football on a muddy pitch in his native Cameroon, showing off his striker skills in a clip that went viral.

According to the Daily Mail, his injury was the final straw for Amorim, who agreed with director of football Jason Wilcox to let him leave.

United were open to offers with Monaco failing in a £30million bid before the Trabzonspor opportunity emerged.

Onana played just once this season, failing to impress against Grimsby in the Carabao Cup defeat.

The 29-year-old was at fault for both of the goals conceded and saved just one penalty out of 13 in the shoot-out.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe reportedly supported the decision to ship Onana out, having previously spoken about the deadwood he inherited.

He said: “If you look at the players we are buying this summer, that we didn’t buy, we’re buying Antony, we’re buying Casemiro, we’re buying Onana, we’re buying Hojlund, we’re buying Sancho.

“These are all things from the past, whether we like it or not, we’ve inherited those things and have to sort that out.

“Some are not good enough and some probably are overpaid, but for us to mould the squad that we are fully responsible for, and accountable for, will take time.”
