MANCHESTER UNITED are back… in the Premier League’s European spots.

The Red Devils made it three wins in a row for the first time under Ruben Amorim with a thrilling 4-2 win over Brighton at Old Trafford – a first win at home to the Seagulls since 2022.

The front three of Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko caused nightmares for the Brighton defence

Matheus Cunha finally got himself off the mark in a United shirt as Casemiro‘s deflected strike added a second before Bryan Mbeumo scored a match-winning brace in front of a jubilant Stretford End.

But while the headlines will go to United’s attack and their return to the business end of the table, SunSport’s tactical guru Dean Scoggins has had a closer look at the game to discover what really got United over the line.

In the latest edition of SunSport’s series Tactics Exposed, we look at how a game of Tetris with the Mbeumo and Cunha gave the Seagulls too many problems to answer.

And that kicks off by looking at United’s new Eric Cantona-esque frontman in Cunha.

United are beginning to bear the fruits of their front three of Cunha, Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko understanding one another.

Against Brighton, one key tactical decision saw the two No10s drop behind Sesko to fill the defensive holes and simultaneously give them space for the counter.

It was truly square pegs in square holes for what feels like the first time for United, led by Cunha and Mbeumo.

The good news for United is the building blocks from Saturday’s full-blooded display, which at one point included Cunha sliding in to make a challenge in front of the Stretford End, can be repeated week in week out due to the lack of distractions elsewhere.

Despite the gap to league leaders Arsenal now sitting at just six points, title talk is probably a bit premature.

Let’s see them get above Sunderland first.

Elsewhere in this week’s episode of Tactics Exposed, we look at how Luke Shaw is a man reborn, how United have solved their Bruno Fernandes conundrum and how Senne Lammens is proving to be more than a shot-stopper.
