Brown becomes a key player in the Chiefs’ passing offense, as both of their top two wide receivers have availability questions. Rashee Rice is coming off a season-ending injury and is facing a potential suspension dating back to the 2024 offseason, while Xavier Worthy was arrested on Friday for domestic assault, making him a suspension candidate as well.

Brown is signing a one-year deal worth up to $11 million to return to Kansas City, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.

As a free agent last year, Brown signed a one-year, $7 million deal to join the Chiefs, but he missed most of the season after suffering an injury in training camp. Brown returned for the final two weeks of the regular season and was available for the entirety of the Chiefs’ playoff run.

Brown will turn 28 years-old in June, which should allow him to potentially earn a more lucrative, long-term contract next offseason if he has a strong 2025 with the Chiefs.

Brown has dealt with a variety of injuries throughout his career, most recently a sternoclavicular injury that cost him the majority of the 2024 season. The wide receiver was able to return at the end of December and played in all three of Kansas City’s playoff games.

In 2022, Brown suffered a fractured foot that caused him to miss seven games during the middle of the season. Brown also had a heel injury at the end of the 2023 season that forced him to miss two games in December that year.

Brown’s talent hasn’t always translated to on-field success, as he has just one season with over 1,000 receiving yards in his career. Part of that is due to injuries, however, as Brown was on pace for 1,000 yards in 2022 if he played in all 17 games.

Last year, Brown saw minimal action with the Chiefs due to a collarbone injury he suffered in training camp. While Brown played in just two regular season games, but he did play in all three playoff games, totaling five catches for 50 yards.

Brown became a free agent in 2024, and he signed a one-year, $7 million deal with the Chiefs that offseason. The veteran wide receiver has decided to return to Kansas city for as much as $11 million in 2025 instead of hitting the open market.
