Conor Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, says he wanted to get at Chris Eubank Jr. after he hit him with an egg during today’s press conference because he’d thought he’d “whacked” him with a “glass” in his eye.

Shove Story

During the scuffle, Hearn was seen looking in promoter Ben Shalom’s direction and then shoving him. He says he was actually trying to get to Eubank Jr. It didn’t look that way, but that’s what he says. Shalom looked like he was standing there innocently as if he were easy prey when he got shoved.

Eddie looked worked up, almost frantic during the episode, and he still couldn’t calm down afterward when he was interviewed. He says he thinks the whole Eubank Jr. team was in on it, including promoter Shalom. It was all guesswork by Hearn, but he was treating it like a proven fact.

“He’s been whacked around the face with an object in his eye, and they’re not very happy about it,” said Eddie Hearn to The Stomping Ground about Conor Benn and his dad, Nigel, not being happy about the egg incident by Chris Eubank Jr. during today’s press conference.

It was just an egg, but Hearn couldn’t stop yakking about it. The security took care of the issue by separating the two fighters, so there was no point in Hearn banging on about it and blaming the whole team. Shalom said he didn’t know anything about what Eubank Jr. was going to do, and he looked believable.

Hearn’s “Glass” Fear

“At the pressor on Thursday, we have to have precautions in place because if Conor and Nigel see Eubank, it’s on. At the time, I thought it was a glass. It shattered everywhere. He’s got someone to buy him an egg. He’s gone up on the stage. Everybody on his team knows what he’s about to do, and he’s hit him around the face with an egg.

“I wasn’t going to have a fight, but I wanted to go talk to people because I believe they knew what was going to happen. Just to get him out [of the way],” said Hearn when reminded that he did shove promoter Ben Shalom on stage. “I wanted to go to Chris Eubank, because I thought it was a b**** move.

“When you carry something on the stage to hit them around the face with, I went mad on him. I don’t like the way it was planned. I told him [Shalom] that you knew about it, and he said, ‘I swear, I didn’t know about it.’ Eubank is a premediated guy. That’s what he does,” said Hearn.
