“He Ain’t Fought Nobody”: Bill Haney Dismisses Brian Norman Jr. Ahead of Devin’s Bid for Third World Title

“He Ain’t Fought Nobody”: Bill Haney Dismisses Brian Norman Jr. Ahead of Devin’s Bid for Third World Title

Bill Haney finally emerged from silence to begin talking up his son, Devin Haney’s chances against WBO welterweight champion Brian Norman Jr. on November 22nd.

Downplaying the Danger

Papa Haney downgraded Norman Jr’s credentials, noting that this is the first time he’s fought a “former champion” in his eight-year career. He then predicted that Devin (32-0, 16 KOs) is about to capture his third division world title.

Bill Sounding Nervous

You can tell Bill is nervous by the way he’s working up a lather, dismissing Norman Jr’s threat. He knows this could end badly for Devin. I just hope he doesn’t run around like he did in his last fight against Jose Ramirez. If he’s going to get it anyway, he should go out like a warrior. Losing like that would look bad.

He didn’t mention the two previous division world titles Haney had won. These are the ‘champions’ Devin beat to become a two-division world champion.

  • Regis Prograis: WBC 140
  • George Kambosos Jr: IBF, WBA, WBO, and Ring lightweight title
  • Email belt” WBC

As you can see, Haney didn’t exactly go through murderer’s row to become a two-division world champion. It’s not worth mentioning titles as being true belts because of who Haney beat. It would be a different story if he captured his lightweight titles against Gervonta Davis and his WBC light welterweight title against Gary Antuanne Russell.

“You ain’t been doing this s*** for eight years, and you ain’t even fought a former champion. Devin is the first champion that’s coming up to fight you,” said Bill Haney to Tru Media podcast, talking about Brian Norman Jr. defending against his son, Devin.

Just because Norman Jr. hasn’t been given the opportunity to fight for world titles the way Haney has, it doesn’t mean that he’s not an excellent fighter. If he had Bill as his manager all this time, he’d have done more by now.

“This is about three division three division champion. He got the belt; however, he got it. I wouldn’t care if he got it emailed. We’re in our third division, taking a belt off a champion,” said Bill, assuming Devin will dethrone WBO champion Norman Jr.

Norman’s Minefield

I got a bad feeling about this fight for Haney. He’s going to be stepping into a minefield against Norman Jr. on November 22nd, and one false step, it’s going to blow up on him. He’ll be scattered everywhere.

It’s a given that he’s going to make a run for it, just like he did in his last fight against Jose Ramirez earlier this year on May 2nd. That approach won’t work against Brian Jr. because he’s got the reach, jab, and he steps to his opponents fast.

What we saw Norman Jr. do to his last opponent, Jin Sasaki, may be duplicated against Haney. He knocked Sasaki out in the fifth round, and flat out. I hate to say it, but that might be Devin’s destiny on November 22nd.
