HARRY KANE vowed to make up for the worst moment of his career by winning the World Cup next summer.
England’s captain and all-time record goalscorer skied his penalty in the 2-1 quarter-final defeat to France at Qatar 2022.
The Bayern Munich goal machine reached 76 international strikes with a double as Thomas Tuchel’s men qualified for next year’s tournament with a 5-0 drubbing of Latvia on Tuesday.
But speaking of that missed spot-kick, Kane said: “That was probably the worst I’ve felt in any moment — and I’ve lost finals before [Euro 2020 and 2024].
“But to have that responsibility, you almost feel like it fell on my shoulders and I guess not being able to execute something I’ve been able to many a time, that was the hardest part.
“I’m looking forward to the next World Cup to try to put that right, to go further, to try to lift the trophy as we all dream of doing.

“Those moments only shape you as a person and it’s definitely helped me become a better player.”
Kane netted from the spot in the 2-1 Euro 2024 semi-final victory over the Netherlands for Sir Gareth Southgate’s England.
The Tottenham legend, 32, added: “I don’t think about it [the penalty miss] too much now. After another major tournament, you get over it and get on with it.
“I scored a penalty in the semi-final of the Euros which was as high pressure as you get. I always try to learn from those moments.
“After that one, I went 31 penalties without missing. So I changed my technique, I improved in that sense which I was proud of.
“I’ve been lucky enough to play in two World Cups and they are the greatest tournaments to be a part of. I want to help England get back there.
“I spoke to some of the guys who haven’t experienced that yet, trying to tell them how excited they should be and it’s a great thing to look forward to.
“For me, it’s using those experiences to try to help some of the other lads and for them, it’s just to go full gas and enjoy the experience.”
Boss Tuchel said he has never discussed that World Cup penalty miss with his skipper.
Yet he admitted he was relieved when Kane’s extraordinary streak of 31 successful penalties ended in Bayern’s German Cup win over Wehen Wiesbaden in August, rather than in a big England match.
Tuchel said: “For me, he never misses. Harry’s in excellent shape.
“He puts so much effort in these penalties. I’ve never seen that before, how he trains, the effort.”
