Haney on Taylor: “S****y Boy 🗑️”

Haney on Taylor: “S****y Boy 🗑️”

Devin Haney reacted negatively to former undisputed light welterweight champion Josh Taylor’s loss to Ekow Essuman, mocking him on social media, calling him a “s****y boy,” and showing a trash can emoji. Taylor (19-3, 12 KOs) lost his third straight fight since 2023.

Last Saturday night, Taylor lost a 12-round unanimous decision to Essuman (22-1, 8 KOs) in front of his hometown crowd at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. The scores were 116-112, 116-113, and 116-113.

There had been talk of Haney and Taylor fighting, but nothing ever came of it. Haney’s taunt of Josh after his loss suggests that he still harbors bad blood.

Devin Haney’s Insult

“Wow, Josh Taylor.. S**** boy 🗑️” said Devin Haney on X, reacting to Josh Taylor’s performance against Ekow Essuman last Saturday night in Glasgow.

The former two-division world champion Haney (32-0, 15 KOs) had a tough time beating Jose Ramirez on May 2nd at Times Square in New York City. Haney received wide criticism from fans for putting on a boring effort, running around the ring all night, trying to keep from getting hit.

Fans on social media trashed Haney, saying he was “scared’ to get hit by the faded former unified light welterweight champion. They felt that Devin is just a shell of what he was before his loss to Ryan Garcia, and that he’s now been permanently ruined. The consensus is that Haney was never that good to begin with.

Taylor defeated Ramirez by a 12-round decision in 2021 to capture the undisputed 140-lb championship.

Taylor, 34, was the favorite going into the fight in his debut at 147. It was thought that he would handle the tough but limited Essuman without too many problems, but he lacked the engine in the second half to get the victory. That was the difference in the fight. Taylor was technically better, but Essuman had the better gas tank.

Haney’s Next Fight

Haney doesn’t have an opponent lined up for his next fight. Going into the Times Square event, there was talk that Devin would fight Ryan Garcia in October. That appears to be off now, given Ryan’s loss to Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero on the May 2nd card and Haney’s timid, jab-heavy performance against Ramirez.
