On Saturday night, July 12th, at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York, fight fans witnessed a perfect example of when trash-talking goes wrong, as Hamzah Sheeraz stopped Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (23-2, 18 KOs) in the fifth round.

Throughout the promotional portion of the event, Edgar Berlanga took advantage of each opportunity he received to troll Hamzah Sheeraz. While Berlanga did all the talking outside of the ring, Sheeraz made a definitive statement inside the squared circle.

During the initial fight press conference, Berlanga took his first opportunity to violate Sheeraz. After participating in the face-off, Berlanga decided to take a step back and fire imaginary gunshots in the direction of Sheeraz.

As a guest on the show titled ‘Face Off’, Berlanga was asked if he was serious when he said he would knock Sheeraz out in the first round, and he responded by saying, “If he comes to fight, you’re going to see. It’s different. It’s different. Bro, I’m telling you, it’s different, bro.”

As a guest on the radio show ‘The Breakfast Club’, Berlanga was asked about Sheeraz’s weaknesses, and he responded by stating, “he’s soft bro, he’s soft man. He’s from the UK, so when you bring them on this side, it’s different.”

At the final press conference, Edgar Berlanga doubled down on his first-round prediction by saying, “You know I’m the king of the 1st round. You know I’m the king, so I’m gonna touch that n*gga jaw man, f**kin giraffe.”

To conclude the final press conference, Edgar Berlanga and Hamzah Sheeraz participated in a final face-off. Berlanga once again went into disrespect mode as he placed his fist on Sheeraz’s jaw.

Edgar Berlanga took advantage of every opportunity he had to troll his opponent. During one of his training sessions, Berlanga was multitasking as he trained while speaking about Sheeraz.

“He ain’t gonna hit me like he hit Adames. He ain’t gonna hit me like he hit Ammo. He’s not gonna hit me with that sh*t. I promise you.”

On fight night with 45 seconds left to go in the fourth round, Sheeraz dropped Berlanga when he landed a hard left hook, followed by a rapid-fire combination. Berlanga was able to get up, and the match continued.

Seconds later, Berlanga was hit by another powerful combination that caused him to fall face-first to the canvas. Once again, Berlanga was able to get up as the bell sounded to end the fourth round.

At the start of the fifth round, Sheeraz landed a three-punch combination that dropped Berlanga for the third time. Once again, Berlanga was able to get up, but the referee stepped in to put a halt to the contest.

With the victory, Hamzah Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs) made a big statement. In addition to making an emphatic statement inside the ring, Sheeraz became the WBC number one super-middleweight contender.

Hamzah Sheeraz took all of the negativity that was thrown at him, and he handled it with dignity and class. Then he continued his business-like approach on fight night by executing his game plan and earning the big victory.

Throughout the promotion of the fight, Berlanga’s antics were getting the laughs, but he got humbled inside the ring, and Sheeraz got the last laugh. The Sheeraz vs Berlanga matchup turned into a perfect example of the term ‘action speaks louder than words.’
