Hamzah Sheeraz Believes He Will Knock Out Edgar Berlanga

As a middleweight, he instantly became a rising contender, and now Hamzah Sheeraz is attempting to make an immediate impact at super-middleweight, as he is set to take on highly ranked 168-pound contender Edgar Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs).

This intriguing bout on The Ring Magazine July 12 card is a WBC title eliminator that’s set to take place at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York. Sheeraz will be attempting to make an immediate impact in his debut at super-middleweight.

Hailing from Ilford, England, Hamzah Sheeraz is a British Boxer of Pakistani descent. He made his pro debut back in September 2017 at Copper Box Arena in London, England, when he defeated Duane Green via second-round TKO.

Sheeraz would go on to enhance his resume by winning his next 18 fights. He received national notoriety when he participated in the June 2024 Matchroom vs Queensberry 5 vs 5 event which took place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

As time was about to expire in the 10th round, Sheeraz connected with a right hook that sent his opponent, Austin “Ammo” Williams, down to the canvas. Williams rose to his feet as the bell sounded to end the tenth.

At the start of the eleventh round, Sheeraz hit Williams with a flurry of hard shots which forced the referee to step in and put a halt to the contest. After scoring a quality victory, Sheeraz went on to fight for European gold.

Eleven seconds into the bout, Sheeraz landed a hard left hook that sent his opponent, Tyler Denny, down to the canvas. Denny was able to get up, but in the final minute of the second round, Denny was hit with a flurry of punches as he was floored for a second time.

Once again Denny was able to get up, but the referee elected to put a halt to the contest. After winning the European middleweight title, Sheeraz elevated his ambitions to the world title level as he challenged the WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames.

The defending champion Carlos Adames was the aggressor as he was constantly pressing forward, but the challenger Hamzah Sheeraz landed the cleaner shots. At the conclusion of the 12-round world title contest, the bout was declared a split draw.

Now the 25-year-old Hamzah Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17 KOs) is moving up to 168 to face Edgar Berlanga. This July 12th bout is a battle between two power punchers. The last time he competed inside of the squared circle, Edgar Berlanga suffered his first career loss as Canelo Alvarez defeated him via unanimous decision.

Hamzah Sheeraz plans on extending Berlanga’s losing streak when they face each other on July 12th. Going into this fight, Sheeraz is very focused because he feels he’s being underestimated and he has something to prove.

At the press conference in New York, Berlanga tried to intimidate Sheeraz by firing imaginary gunshots in his direction. Berlanga’s intimidation tactics and his aggressive comments don’t faze Sheeraz because he believes he’s going to stop Berlanga.

“I’ve learned a lot since my last fight, not just inside the ring, but outside as well. I’m going to go out there, throw a few jabs, land a right hand straight on the chin, and knock him the f*** out.”
