The New York Jets are one of a few NFL teams that’s probably not looking forward to free agency.

The reason is that the Jets have several starters on both sides of the ball entering free agency. In addition, the team already announced that Aaron Rodgers won’t be back and it wouldn’t be surprising if Davante Adams is moved, as well.

One of the defenders set to enter free agency is edge rusher Haason Reddick. Reddick and the Jets have had a tumultuous relationship, with the pass rusher sitting out his first seven games as a Jet due to a contract dispute.

Once Reddick returned to the field near the end of October, the veteran was unable to duplicate his performance from previous seasons. In 10 games, Reddick finished with 14 tackles and just one sack. Considering the team and Reddick never worked out an extension, it’s safe to assume the veteran will leave in free agency.

Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus identified a perfect free agent target for each NFL team. Cameron has Reddick as the best option for the Arizona Cardinals.

Regarding Reddick and the Cardinals, Cameron offered the following:

While some teams may be hesitant to bring in Haason Reddick following his lengthy holdout and ineffectiveness in 2024, one team that should leap at the chance of signing the disgruntled edge rusher is the Arizona Cardinals. A reunion with Jonathan Gannon, who coached Reddick during his breakout 2022 campaign (90.7 PFF pass-rush grade) in Philadelphia, would be an instant boost to a Cardinals team that ranked 31st in team PFF pass-rush grade (58.5) this past season.

Reddick signing with the Cardinals makes sense for a couple reasons.

As Cameron pointed out, the edge rusher played under Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon while with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022. That was Reddick’s best season, when he racked up 16 sacks and earned his first career Pro Bowl appearance.

Also, Reddick spent the first four years of his career with the Cardinals. During that time, Reddick collected 255 tackles, 20 sacks, and 33 tackles for loss. While some teams may be hesitant to bring in Reddick due to how 2024 played out, the Cardinals likely know him better than any other team.

The Cardinals also desperately need to upgrade their pass rush. Nobody on the team had more than five sacks last season and the team finished 31st in Pro Football Focus’ pass-rush grade.

Spotrac projects the edge rusher to land a one-year deal worth $11.7 million this offseason. That price shouldn’t scare off the Cardinals, as the team is projected to have around $76 million in cap space this offseason.
