They share a position and jersey number, but Rob Gronkowski finally got tired enough of being compared to Travis Kelce to take to his own podcast and put an end to it.

The retired NFL star — who, like Kansas City Chiefs’ Kelce does now, was a tight end playing under the number 87 — egged on his Dudes on Dudes with Gronk and Jules co-host Julian Edelman to ask him about the comparison.

And then he detailed the differences between him and Kelce, including his reasons why he didn’t think they could each pull off what the other one can do.

“We’re two totally different players,” Gronk began on the episode released Thursday, March 6. “We have two totally different skill sets by far — like, by far.”

The star player — who famously paired up with quarterback Tom Brady to win three Super Bowls for the New England Patriots and one for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — was just getting started.

“He’s savvy at top of the route,” Gronk said. “I’m going to run, and I’m just going to go to the corner, and I’m going to outrun the guy. I’m going to use my body. I’m going to be physical in time — just throw the ball up and if the guy’s on me, I’m bigger than him. I’m going to use my body, box him out and just go up and catch the freaking ball, all right? Just throw me the ball. There was nothing more to it.”

But Kelce?

“This guy has like eight moves!” Gronk said. “He’s like a wide receiver out there. So we’re two totally different players…if you brought him to the New England pitch, I don’t think he would be able to do what I was doing. He would be able to do it, but not to the capable level that I was able to do it at. So we’re different players, man, totally different players. He has mastered his skill set as well, just like I mastered my skill set and what I brought to the table.”

The podcast host also made sure to compliment Kelce.

“I’m not, you know, sick of [the comparison],” he said. “He’s a great player. I mean, he definitely belongs as the best tight end in the NFL or debatable as being the best tight end in the NFL due to his stats and what he has done for the position…it’s an honor to be in the same category.”

Jules was ready with a follow-up: “Now what if you guys were both on the same team?”

“We would complement each other,” Gronk said. “I would say that we would have been the best duo.”
