The Green Bay Packers lost Christian Watson to a torn ACL in the final game of the 2024 NFL season. Unfortunately, that came with the likelihood that Watson would miss at least the start of the 2025 campaign.

While that expectation has been in place, there have been confirmations or updates given by the Packers themselves.

Now, an update has been given about Watson’s expected status.

Brian Gutekunst, the team’s general manager, has spoken out about Watson. He confirmed that Green Bay is expecting him to miss some time to begin the 2025 season.

“Obviously, Christian is going to miss some time, probably, at the beginning, more than likely,” Gutekunst stated. “That’s going to create opportunities for some guys on the roster that I’m excited for. We’ll see how that shakes out.”

Heading into the offseason, there has been an expectation that the Packers could make a move for a No. 1 wideout for Jordan Love. This news could push them towards making a major addition even more.

Watson is coming off of a 2024 season that saw him play in 15 games. He caught 29 passes for 620 yards and also reeled in two touchdowns. Those numbers average out to an impressive 21.4 yards per reception.

At just 25 years old, Watson still has room to improve his game. However, he has not developed into being the consistent playmaker that Green Bay hoped he could be when they made him the No. 34 overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

It will be interesting to see what the Packers choose to do this offseason. Will they bring in another target for Love?

Either way, the hope is that Watson doesn’t suffer any kind of setback and is able to get back on the field at full health sometime during the 2025 season.
