The NFL offseason is upon us and the Green Bay Packers will be looking to make some moves in order to work their way up in the NFC. After losing in the Wild Card, it’s clear that Brian Gutekunst and the front office have more left to do in order to make the Packers a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

At this point in time, Green Bay has some great cornerstones. With what the Packers currently have, they are not far off from competing for a championship.

That being said, there are some needs.

Jordan Love could use a true No. 1 wide receiver. Green Bay also needs to bring in help for the defensive secondary. Jaire Alexander is a name to watch as a player potentially on his way out of town.

Alexander has been unable to stay healthy over the last couple of years in particular. He has played in just seven games in each of the last two seasons. That simply isn’t going to cut it.

With that in mind, a former NFL quarterback has suggested a blockbuster trade that would swap Alexander for Seattle Seahawks star wide receiver DK Metcalf. Kurt Benkert, who spent a short period of time with the Packers, was the one who came up with the idea.

“The Packers seem like the type of organization — which I can vouch for — that will move a guy to move a guy, even if he is a star player,” Benkert said. “Now, it has been made very clear that the Packers need a No. 1 receiver, and I think that DK Metcalf is the type of receiver that warrants being a No. 1 in Green Bay. Get a guy that when they load the box up can block but can also win one-on-one outside as a big body, play in the cold and I think this could be a nice little swap.”

Metcalf would be a massive addition for Green Bay. He would give Love the best weapon he has worked with by far.

During the 2024 NFL season with the Seahawks, Metcalf caught 66 passes for 992 yards and five touchdowns. He’s capable of producing much bigger numbers as well.

Moving Alexander for Metcalf would make a lot of sense for the Packers. If they decide that the star cornerback is no longer a fit, moving him to bring in a true No. 1 target would be a win-win scenario.
