It’s time to mark your calendars for the 2025 season of exhilarating golf tournaments. With the schedule brimming with some incredible championships nestled in some of the most beautiful historic sites, it seems that we are in for a memorable year. With the season already underway, let’s explore some of the most exciting out of the 39-event tour.
As usual, the action started in Sentry on December 30th, 2024, and it will last till January 5th, 2025. The season will end with the FedEx Cup in the fall with still undetermined dates.
The Masters Tournament
Augusta National Golf Club has been a fixture in the schedule. Starting on April 10th the spectators have the chance for three days to enjoy the beautiful colors of the course in eastern Georgia. Last year, Scottie Scheffler gave us a spectacular performance winning first place at the Par-72 iconic tournament. One of the most popular courses in sports betting, too!
PGA Championship
In mid-May Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, will be the host of the famous tournament. Last year was a memorable one with Xander Schauffele’s iconic win with 21 under par perfect execution on the par 71 course. However, the absolute champion of the Quail Hollow club is the 4-time champion Rory McIlroy. With two fantastic pros on the court, this year looks promising.
US Open
The tournament is going back to Oakmont Country Club, in Oakmont, Pennsylvania. For years this championship that’s held from June 12th til June 15th, 2025, is famous for unpredictable ups and downs of players. Rory McIlroy suffered a heartbreak last year, while Bryson DeChambeau came out as a champion at Pinehurst No. 2. This year might bring some new champions to light, or shine the path for the return of some old ones.
The Open Championship
The Par 71 notable championship is held at the Royal Portrush Golf Club, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It’s been six years since the locals celebrated the win of Shane Lowry, so another win for the Irishman might be overdue. Last year Xander Schauffele gave a stunning performance to the delight of the audience. The championship will be held from July 17th to July 20th, 2025.
Ryder Cup
One of the greatest cups, and certainly one of the most interesting to watch from the spectator’s point of view, is the Ryder Cup. Every year there’s a clash of the golf titans happening, pitching Europeans against Americans. It’s fun, intense and full of drama. This year it will be held at Bethpage Black Course, Farmingdale, New York starting September 26-28, 2025. The course is legendary for its difficulty and the infamous black Course.
Additionally, two more tournaments are worth watching, both of which you can follow on Stake.com. One is The Players Championship that’s held from March 13-16, 2025 at the TPC Sawgrass, Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Scottie Scheffler won last year, adding to the collection of trophies. The last, but not the least important, is the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club, Atlanta, Georgia. It will be held from August 21-24, 2025. Again, not surprisingly, Scheffler snatched the victory and became the FedEx Cup champion.
As beautiful as the sport is, nothing draws the attention of the audience like individual players. Respectfully clapping and quenching their fists up in the air has become a signature move of champions as well as the spectators. So, which players will captivate the golfing world this year? These are the contenders who will likely make the biggest splash.
Luke Clanton
The 21-year-old Floridian showed off his talents both as an amateur as well as a professional player. With three wins on the US Collegiate circuit and the number one rank on the WAGR, this young man is announcing his arrival in the professional sport. With a lot to offer to the sport promoting, Clanton will surely have smooth sailing for the pro golfers.
Jasmine Koo
At just 18 years old, Jasmine proved herself to be the next new sensation in women’s golf. Although still an amateur, Koo’s ranking seems to be on the upside. The Californian ended the year as the number 2 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking and is definitely someone who will pave their own way into the professional elite.
Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen
The young Danish golf player is slowly but surely laying the foundations for his transition into the paying ranks. Admittedly, the road ahead is going to be long and bumpy with all the champions being in top shape, but the 25-year-old is set on pushing his way to the top. He finished first last year in the Challenge Tour, so he proved himself to be worth the attention.
Jacob Skov Olesen
A controversial 25-year-old won the Amature Championship in 2024 becoming the first Dane in history to achieve this. Being this young and already a part of the golfing elite says a lot about his talents and hard work. He is definitely someone to keep a close eye on, not only for his ambition but also for his unmatched skills.
Karl Vilips
The young Australian is guaranteed to make a splash this year. Nicknamed the wunderkind of golf, won the US Kids World Championship twice at the age of 10. It’s very easy to see him as a winner of 2025 since his unwavering focus and ambition got him a whirlwind success.
Adela Cernousek
Winning a NCAA Division 1 Championship last year put this French on the golf map. With a stellar score at the American college Texas A&M, she quickly turned the corner and became one of the professional women golfers. Still, a long road is ahead of this determined young lady, but the success seems to be closer than ever. She also participated in the 2023 Women’s World Amateur Team Championship representing her home country of France.
Julia Lopez Ramirez
This young lady is coming from Spain and is making some waves in the sport. The Spaniard studied in Mississippi, USA where she won everything in junior and senior tournaments. She is definitely someone who set her sights on becoming the next pro champion. In November last year, Ramirez managed to become a professional, taking her one step further to becoming a pro golfer.
Davis Thompson
The 25-year-old American might very well be the force to reckon with in 2025. Towering at six foot four, his strong shots and long balls will surely get him into the professional league. He already had major success as a professional, so transitioning will be quite smooth. Thompson won the 2024 John Deere Classic with a record-low score.
Mimi Rhodes
The new sensation in women’s golf is coming from England. Rhodes started training in Spain where she grew up at the age of eight. Since then, golf has been her primary focus and career path in life. Last year was very successful for the young lady when she turned professional which put her on the path of becoming one of the golf elites.
Aside from these young people who are definitely ready to step into the pro golfer’s tournaments, there is a whole group that is made of late bloomers and almost professionals who are worth the mention.
Tom McKibbin
The young Northern Irishman earned his spot to be in the PGA Tour when he ended up in 18th place in Dubai last year. Unofficially endorsed by Rory McIlroy gave McKibbin the tailwind and self-esteem he needed to join some of the biggest names in golf. He seems to be in the top shape of his life, so we can expect some great shots in the upcoming USA tournaments.
Nicolas Echavarria
The 30-year-old Colombian is a bit of a late bloomer, but his skills seem to be more polished in the last year. Currently, on the Official World Golf Ranking, he is sitting at the 73rd place. However, his passion and ambition for the sport was never shining so bright. He may very well surprise everyone this year.
Rasmus and Nicolai Hojgaard
The talented brothers never experienced major success, but they were always considered one of the strongest players on the tour. Rasmus won the Irish Open in 2024, and Nicolai is three times a winner on the DP World Tour. Both brothers have much bigger dreams for their respective careers in golfing, but for now they don’t seem to be making much progress. In the golfing circles, there is a lot of doubt that both of them will ever live to their full potential. Even though 2024 was somewhat successful for both, not much is expected from them this year. However, golf is a sport after all, and anything is possible. To be fair, the brothers seem to be working on their swings while maintaining top shape for the upcoming events.
Maja Stark
What a name, right? The 24-year-old from Sweden is known to be a fierce competitor. Even when she hits some bumps on the road, or shall we say on the court, Maja quickly brushes off and just keeps pushing herself forward. With that kind of attitude, she already has everything needed to become a champion. One thing she is currently working on is her shots and technical strategy. On the LPGA Tour in 2024, Stark showed off her skills having three top-three finishes.
Max Greyserman
Another player that’s a bit late to the game at 29 years old. Still, his talents aren’t dimming just yet. Greyserman is playing better than ever, so he might give us a surprise this year. He did have a successful 2024 and is hoping to continue the great strikes throughout 2025. Nothing is set in stone, but this golfer still has a lot to offer. His experience is working in his favor and his dedication has never left him. So, it’s quite possible that he could achieve some good results.
Alexa Pano
A tall, 20-year-old Floridian drew the attention of the golfing community when she won the US Kids World Championship five times. Yes, five! She was considered to be the next child prodigy, but somehow the success seemed to be slipping through her hands. However, Alexa is still very young, and regardless of her experience as a junior competitor, there is still a lot of work to be done by this promising golfer. Besides practicing her shots, there is a lot of maturing as a player left to do. For sure, everyone heard her name in golfing by now, but the pressure of achieving high scores left Pano a bit depleted. Still, she seems to be getting back on her feet, and working on her best shape.
The list wouldn’t be complete without mentioning some of the best players at the moment. They are the big guns, the major contenders for the Championship title.
Rory McIlroy
Probably one of the most recognizable names in golfing. If you’re going to do some online sports betting, Rory carries zero risk. He is the favorite in every single one of the tournaments this year. A string of bad luck, or maybe a moment of losing focus was visible last year, but McIlroy will surely win some, if not all, tournaments this year.
Charley Hull
Perhaps the best woman golfer without any title. Maybe 2025 will be her year, it would set things back in balance in ladies’ golf tournaments. 2024 was a good, but not great, year for Hull. To be fair, that doesn’t have to mean anything going forward. She definitely has a lot of potential, is in good shape, and has not lost her focus.
Hideki Matsuyama
Well-known Japanese golfer, who at only 32 already has won major titles and has more than a decade of experience. His stamina, discipline, and dedication to the sport are surely going to bring him many more titles. Matsuyama has been consistently in the top 10 players, and his game seems to be reaching new levels. Yes, there’s fierce competition on the courts and no one can predict the next champion with so many new and already existing talents, but Hideki Matsuyama is surely one of the names to watch in 2025.
