One year after its acquisition by Stellar Asset Management, Newark Golf Club is celebrating a remarkable turnaround that has seen the historic private members’ club avoid administration and begin a new chapter of growth and revitalisation.

Acquired in 2024, Newark Golf Club has undergone sweeping improvements to its amenities, staffing, and overall golf course quality under the guidance of Ben Blackburn and his experienced team, drawing on successful turnarounds at Paulton’s Golf Centre, Murrayshall, and Bramshaw Golf Club.

“The last 12 months have proven that our approach can quickly have a positive impact on any golf business,” said Molly Pavey, Group General Manager, who has spearheaded changes in staffing and operational processes.

“This is the first private members’ club we’ve worked with, and it’s been a privilege to see the members’ faith restored.

We’ve accomplished more in one year than anyone expected—and we’re just getting started.”

Over the winter, the club’s green-keeping team worked meticulously to manicure each hole and restore the greens, with further investments planned to enhance the bunkers in the off-season.

OFF COURSE

A full grass driving range, now featuring cutting-edge Trackman ball tracking technology accessible via a downloadable app, has elevated the practice experience to new heights.

Beyond the course, the clubhouse has seen a major refurbishment. The Pro Shop has been relocated into the main building, the bar has been repositioned, and new cosy seating areas now allow for flexible use of space, creating larger event venues without compromising the members’ experience.

These upgrades have generated additional hire revenue while preserving the club’s traditional atmosphere.

Vice Captain Gary Bruce praised the transformation, noting, “It’s been a year since Ben Blackburn and his team took over Newark Golf Club.

Everyone had reservations, but I’ve been extremely impressed. Not only have they delivered on their promises—they’ve surpassed them. The team has been a breath of fresh air, and I’m proud to be part of this club’s future.”

Future developments will include further investment in course maintenance, the introduction of a new golf car fleet, and a redesigned clubhouse layout, including a remodel of the women’s changing facilities.

With renewed energy, a forward-thinking management team, and visible enhancements across the board, Newark Golf Club is once again positioning itself as one of Nottinghamshire’s premier golf destinations.
