Shedeur Sanders’ stunning fall down the board was perhaps the biggest storyline from the 2025 NFL Draft.
Every single team passed on him several times, with the Cleveland Browns finally selecting him with the No. 144 pick in the fifth round. One team that was viewed as a suitor for Sanders was the New York Giants, and star wide receiver Malik Nabers offered some interesting comments on the team’s decision to pass on him.
The Giants met with Sanders several times during the pre-draft process. When they traded back into the first round after selecting Abdul Carter with the No. 3 overall pick, the initial expectation was that they would take Sanders. Instead, they threw a curveball and selected Jaxson Dart with the No. 25 overall pick, starting a trend of teams passing over Sanders for other quarterbacks.
Nabers wasn’t happy about that, and he called out the Giants and several other teams for passing on Sanders earlier in the draft.
“You don’t do that to somebody like that,” Nabers said on “7PM In Brooklyn.” “You can’t knock his talent … This boy was the talk of the top two quarterbacks in his class. There’s no way in hell he goes fifth round.”
Melo & Malik Nabers were HOT Shedeur Sanders slipped to the 5th round of the NFL Draft 😬

Nabers caught 109 passes for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie in 2024, but he did so while playing with a subpar cast of characters under center.
While the Giants made upgrades at quarterback this offseason, there’s a chance that Sanders could have been their quarterback of the future. Instead, they opted to roll with Dart, while letting a now extremely motivated Sanders fall all the way to the Browns in the fifth round.
