New York Giants legendary quarterback Eli Manning was not elected as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025, announced during the NFL Honors on Thursday night.

In his first year of eligibility on the Hall of Fame ballot, Manning failed to make the cut in the eyes of the voting committee — consisting of a 50-person panel.

The players who were voted in over Manning included: defensive end Jared Allen, tight end Antonio Gates, cornerback Eric Allen as the Modern-Era selections ,and wide receiver Sterling Sharpe for the veterans committee.

Arguably the most polarizing candidate in recent memory, Manning will have to wait in order to receive his gold jacket. However, things won’t get much easier for Manning moving forward.

The 2026 ballot includes several worthy names, including a handful of first-timers. That includes names like Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Larry Fitzgerald, Jason Witten and Maurkice Pouncey, to name a few.

A two-time Super Bowl champion, Manning now joins Jim Plunkett as the only quarterback with multiple Super Bowl victories to be left out of the Hall of Fame.

Manning threw for 57,023 yards, 366 touchdowns and 244 interceptions during his time with the Giants since he was selected in the first round of the 2004 NFL Draft.

Compared to quarterbacks currently in the Hall of Fame, Manning’s raw numbers hold up well. He’s fourth in passing yards among NFL Hall of Fame quarterbacks behind Peyton Manning (71,940), Brett Favre (71,838), and Dan Marino (61,361). He also ranks fourth in touchdown passes behind Peyton (529), Favre (508) and Marino (420).

Manning had other impressive feats on his resume as well.  He played his entire 16-year career with the Giants and played in a franchise-record 236 regular-season games, including a streak of 210 consecutive starts. That streak would have kept going if not for Ben McAdoo’s controversial decision to bench him for Geno Smith in 2017.

Selected to four Pro Bowls (2019, 2012-13, 2016) throughout his career, Manning also earned a prestigious off-field honor, sharing 2016 NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year recognition with Larry Fitzgerald.

Manning will eventually get in, but it won’t be as a first-ballot Hall of Famer.
