Gervonta Davis revealed that he will call out his next opponent in the post-fight interview on March 1st after his title defense of his WBA lightweight belt against Lamont Roach at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Post-fight Announcement

Boxing fans already have a good idea who it will be because Gervonta (30-0, 28 KOs) revealed yesterday who his three-fight list is for 2025, and the first name he mentioned was Ryan Garcia.

Tank’s fight with Ryan generated 1.2 million PPV buys on April 22, 2023, bringing in over $100 million in gross revenue. Both fighters made money hand-over-fist, with the Baltimore native bringing in a purse estimated between $50 million to $60 million.

Targeting Ryan

Tank says he’s retiring at the end of 2025, so it makes sense that he would choose to fight Ryan Garcia first because it would be too risky to wait until the second or third fight next year. Ryan might get beat by someone else. The purse that Gervonta can get in a fight against Ryan Garcia is immense.

Ryan’s purse was $30M, which is excellent for a challenger. The recent success came down to Ryan’s huge popularity on social media and the hard work that he put into selling the fight with interviews. The event sold for $84.99 on PPV, which is obviously a lot more than Turki Alalshikh’s events have been priced at.

Kingry did all the heavy lifting in promoting the fight, allowing Tank to ride on his coattails and letting him do the marketing of the fight. With Ryan’s 12M Instagram followers, he advertised his fight with Tank frequently, and it’s believed that many of them purchased the event on PPV.

Davis can’t make the same kind of money fighting WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson because he doesn’t have a huge following nationwide in the U.S. His popularity is limited to fans who like his yapping on social media and his defensive fighting style, which is playing the children’s game of tag. You have to really like that style to watch to be interested enough in watching Shakur fight anybody.

The Callout

Dan Canobio: Three names that you want in 2025.”

Gervonta Davis: “I won’t say. I ain’t never called nobody out.”

Canobbio: “So, it’ll be your first time. So, more reasons to tune in on March 1st.”

Gervonta: “Yeah, but I just told you.”
