George Kambosos Jr. reacted to British light welterweight Adam Azim calling him out after his eighth-round knockout loss to IBF 140-lb champion Richardson Hitchins last Saturday night, telling him to focus on fighting top contenders or champions.
Kambosos Rejects Azim Call-Out
Kambosos rebuffed Azim, 23, saying he’s going to take a break and spend his millions after his loss to Hitchins. He suggests that Azim focus on trying to fight these guys:
– Richardson Hitchins
– Teofimo Lopez
– Devin Haney
– Arthur Biyarslanov
Azim’s Barren Resume Problem
Adam’s resume is so barren of quality names that the only fighter on that list he would have a chance of fighting is Biyarslanov, an obscure fringe contender at 140 just like himself. There would be no fame in fighting him, and the chances are, he’d lose.
The unbeaten Azim (13-0, 10 KOs) is ranked #8 WBA and #12 WBC. He has still not faced any world-level opposition during his five-year professional career. For him to call out the former unified lightweight champion Kambosos (22-4, 10 KOs), he likely feels justified in doing so, given that IBF champion Hitchins chose to use him as a stepping stone to create a name for himself.
It was a weak method for Richardson to create fame and make himself look like a super talent, but the fans have fallen for it. The performance sold them on Hitchins. So, it makes sense for the fringe contender Azim to call out Kambosos to follow the same strategy.
However, there’s no interest on his part to indulge the contender, who, unlike the former Matchroo-promoted Hitchins, has nothing to offer. He’s not popular, has no belt, and isn’t promoted by a major promotional company.
Kambosos’s Millionaire Advice
“All the best young pup, don’t worry about me, I’ve been multiple times where you dream off getting too, I’m off to go spend all my millions, but here’s a tip maybe call out guys like Teo, Haney, Hitchins, the current champions at 140, like I did, don’t worry about your 0, young fella take the risk, there’s another guy that’s managed by my father, Artur Biyarslanov 19-0, top 10 in the world aswell, rumour has it you turned him down already. A bit worried about the Chechen? Take the risks, brother, trust me, it will help you in the future, even if you lose that 0, you’re young. Artur vs Adam, why not?” said Kambosos on X.
