STOCKPORT County have announced the launch of their new women’s team.
Tracey Neville, sister of former player and pundit Gary has been placed at the forefront of the project.
Stockport County announced the reformation of Stockport County Ladies to Stockport County Women today on their official website. The team will compete under this name from next season.
They also announced that former England international netball player Tracey has been appointed as managing director.
The statement by Stockport stated: “Her appointment signals a clear shift from support to strategic leadership.”
The club has a “long-term focus on building a sustainable, high-performance programme rooted in the community and capable of competing at the very top of the women’s game. “

They also emphasised Neville’s “extensive experience” in elite sport, referencing her high level of experience in professional netball.
Her brother’s experience as part-owner of Salford City will also have undoubtedly given Tracey exposure to football governance.
After her appointment Tracey said: “My career in elite sport has shown me what is possible when there is a clear vision, strong leadership and a genuine commitment to developing talent from the ground up.”
As managing director her focus will be on “creating a clear, credible pathway for girls and women to progress, while building the standards, culture and infrastructure needed to compete at the highest level.”
Stockport County Ladies had spent 37 years led by volunteers, fronted by Jane Morley. She has now joined as official club secretary.
Chief Executive of Stockport County FC Simon Wilson said: “this is the moment to do more.
“We are proud of our history, grateful to those who built it, and we are determined to build something even stronger for the future.”
This further emphasises the revolutionary change from a volunteer led Stockport County Ladies to Stockport County Women. The new set up contains an official board, formal targets and huge aspirations for women’s football.
