Gary Neville subjected to X-rated chants by England fans after Man Utd legend’s Union Jack rant

GARY NEVILLE was the subject of x-rated chants from England fans as the Three Lions cruised to a 5-0 win against Latvia.

The former Manchester United defender and pundit was labelled a ‘w***er’ by the away fans in Riga following his controversial comments on the movement of individuals flying British flags in public spaces earlier this month.

The 50-year-old accused “angry, middle-aged white men” of dividing the country by “using the Union Flag in a negative fashion” as part of an impassioned rant uploaded to his social media.

The outburst came in response to ‘Operation Raise The Colours’ with Brits taking to the streets to hang British iconography from lampposts and traffic lights.

He said: “I just kept thinking as I was driving home last night that we’re all being turned on each other and the division that’s being created is absolutely disgusting.

“The Union Jack flag used in a negative fashion is not right and I’m a proud supporter of England, of Great Britain, of our country and will champion it anywhere in the world as one of the greatest places to live.

“But I think we need to check ourselves, check ourselves and start to think about bringing ourselves back to a neutral point because we’re being pulled right and left and we don’t need to be pulled right and left at all.”

The comments garnered criticism from the worlds of politics and football, and even from his own staff at a building site he referenced in the rant, where he ordered a flag be taken down.

And clearly that anger extends to the travelling England faithful, who certainly let him know about it.

He wasn’t the only target of their ire, with manager Thomas Tuchel also on the receiving end of x-rated chants.

Fans sarcastically hit back after the German criticised their support during his side’s 3-0 win over Wales last week.

“We didn’t get any energy back from the stands. We did everything to win.

“What more can you give them, three goals in the first 20 minutes.

“You only heard Wales fans for half an hour, it’s a bit sad because the team deserved more.”

Fans struck back in Riga with chants of: “We’ll sing when we want, we’ll sing when we want, Thomas Tuchel, we’ll sing when we want.”

“Are we loud enough for you?” Another chorus rang.

They even sarcastically chanted: “Our support is f*****g s**t.”

The edgy nature of the chanting did not affect things on the pitch as England strolled to a 5-0 win to make it six wins from six in the World Cup Qualifiers, all while being yet to concede a goal.
