Gary Neville reveals how much he earned in last year at Man Utd as Ian Wright retorts ‘you were underpaid’

GARY NEVILLE has revealed how much he was paid in his final year at Manchester United.

The retired defender left the Red Devils when he hung up his boots in 2011.

Neville, 50, was discussing the contract of his former team-mate Roy Keane on The Overlap.

He showed how the Irishman was earning £1million a year from his £4m signing-on fee.

Keane’s contract expired in 2005 as he left Old Trafford for Celtic in Scotland.

Neville then revealed that in his final season, six years later that he was paid £2.3m a year.

He said on the YouTube channel: “That’s double what I was earning in my last contract.

“He left six years before me, I finished on £2.3m in 2011.

“I did not negotiate my contracts, I just signed them, I was not bothered. Whatever they offered me.

“Whatever they offered me, I just said ‘That’s fine, I’m not bothered’.”

Former Arsenal star Ian Wright insisted that Neville deserved a higher salary than his £44,000-per-week deal.

He said: “You were underpaid.”

Neville enjoyed huge success during his playing days as he won eight Premier League titles.

He also got his hands on three FA Cups, three League Cups and two Champions League titles.

He finished with 600 appearances for the club and scored seven goals and assisted 49.

Since retiring, he tried and failed at management as he was sacked by Valencia after just 16 LaLiga games.
