Garcia Fired Up After Learning Goossen Will Train Barrios

Garcia Fired Up After Learning Goossen Will Train Barrios

Ryan Garcia was energized at learning that his ex-coach Joe Goossen is training Mario Barrios for his fight against him on February 21, 2026. In a video clip, Garcia implies that Goossen was the mole who leaked information about his rib injury while preparing for his 2023 fight against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

Ryan Points the Finger Again

Ryan states that there were only two people in the gym at the time he suffered the rib injury: his dad, Henry Garcia, and trainer Joe Goossen. He says that his father wouldn’t have said anything about the injury to Tank Davis’ camp. So, he’s directing the blame at Goossen.

Interestingly, Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) parted ways with Goossen in May 2023, shortly after being stopped in the seventh round with a body shot by Gervonta on April 22, 2023. Goossen had been with Kingry for three fights since linking up in 2022, Emmanuel Tagoe, Javier Fortuna, and Tank Davis.

Goossen-Barrios Pairing Adds Spice

“This is music to my ears. This is probably the best thing that could ever happen for this fight. It makes it more interesting and better content,” said Ryan Garcia to InsideRingShow, reacting to his old coach Joe Goossen training WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios for their fight in February.

Ryan is assuming that he would have done better against Tank Davis if not for his supposedly knowing about his rib injury. What he’s failing to acknowledge is that he’d already been dropped earlier in the fight in round two by a headshot from Tank. It looked obvious from that point on that Ryan was out of his league. He only briefly had moments in the fight, landing some shots in the fourth.

Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KOs) has the power, toughness, and enough skills to defeat any version of Ryan, even if the Kingry that fans saw in his win over Devin Haney would be vulnerable against Barrios. He was giving away rounds left and right to Devin in that fight. The only moments Ryan did well were the rounds in which he hurt Haney in the 1st, 7th, 10th, and 11th.

The Rib Injury ‘Mole’ Accusation

“He was already a mole the first time. He’s going to be a mole again, and PBC knows it’s my last fight with Golden Boy. So, they sent the mole in to help Mario Barrios. Thank you. There was only two people in the gym when they seen my rib get cracked. And let’s just say that my dad [Henry Garcia] wouldn’t say anything. It’s the guy [Joe Goossen] with a Canadian tuxedo,” said Kingry.
