Tyson Fury made a retirement announcement today on Instagram, letting his followers know that he’s ending his 16-year professional career. It was a predictable melodramatic move on the Gypsy King’s part after losing for the second time to Oleksandr Usyk on December 21st. I predicted this childish move. Man, I can read that guy like a book.
Fury has made a pile of money with his massive $160 million fortune. So, if he is serious and not doing this to lure Turki Al-Sheikh to pay him $100M+ for his next fight, he’s done well with his career.
Good Riddance
With limited talent, Fury used his victory against a washed-up 39-year-old Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 and transmuted that victory to amass massive wealth. What a great hustle.
I’m wondering why Fury didn’t start whimpering during his retirement post. That would have been classic. I still can’t forget how he was on the verge of tears being interviewed after he was booed after being given a controversial decision against ‘Big’ John McDermott in their first fight.
If this is an actual retirement and not a fake one, I’d say good riddance and don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Fury. It’s nice to get rid of some of the weak fighters who have been given an exalted spot by the naive rabble that follows him.
Usyk Proved Fury’s a Fraud
Resembling Fagan from Oliver Twist, Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) looked purely awful in his recent loss to Usyk. He couldn’t do anything in that fight and was reduced to retreating. All the instructions that were given to him by his well-meaning trainer, SugarHill Steward, were completely ignored because he couldn’t follow any of them. Fury has never been one to follow instructions or adapt during fights. He’s not much for listening.
“I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast. I’ve loved every single minute of it…See you on the other side,” said Tyson Fury on Instagram in his retirement announcement today.
