Franchon Crews-Dezurn Defends WBC Title Against Citlalli Ortiz, Tonight On DAZN

On the Brandon Moore vs Stanley Wright undercard, Franchon Crews-Dezurn finally makes her return to the squared circle as she is scheduled to defend her WBC super-middleweight world title against Citlalli Ortiz (4-1, 1 KO) on Friday night, June 6th.

This Salita Promotions event is set to take place at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York, and it will air live on DAZN. After an 18-month layoff, Crews-Dezurn will be defending her WBC strap for the first time, while the challenger Citlalli Ortiz will be participating in her first world title bout.

Franchon Crews-Dezurn made her pro boxing debut back in November 2016 when she lost to Claressa Shields via unanimous decision. Crews-Dezurn proceeded to bounce back by way of a three-fight win streak.

In the fifth fight of her professional career, Franchon Crews-Dezurn beat Maricela Cornejo and won the vacant WBC super-middleweight world title. Crews-Dezurn would go on to unify and eventually become the undisputed super-middleweight champion.

Crews-Dezurn traveled abroad in July 2023 when she went to Manchester, England, to defend her crown against Savannah Marshall. In a highly competitive bout, Crews-Dezurn lost via majority decision.

For a significant amount of time, the hard-hitting contender Shadasia Green publicly called out Crews-Dezurn on multiple occasions. On December 15, 2023, Crews-Dezurn answered the callout and defeated Green by way of unanimous decision.

With the victory, Crews-Dezurn won the vacant WBC super-middleweight world title. Now, after a lengthy layoff, the 37-year-old Franchon “The Heavy Hitting Diva” Crews-Dezurn (9-2, 2 KOs) is about to make her first title defense against a very determined opponent.

Citlalli Ortiz was a decorated amateur boxer who achieved the status of six-time Mexican national champion, alongside being a seven-time U.S. national champion. Now, five fights into her professional career, Ortiz has the opportunity to win her first world title.

The 25-year-old challenger Citlalli Ortiz is a skilled offensive fighter who has a consistent work rate when it comes to throwing punches. The defending champion, Franchon Crews-Dezurn, is an aggressive fighter who routinely presses forward and utilizes a strong jab to set up her offense.

Citlalli Ortiz realizes she landed a big opportunity, and when she enters the ring to face the champion, she plans on giving it her all and proving that she belongs. Franchon Crews-Dezurn wants to take care of business on Friday night and then continue her quest to become a two-time undisputed world champion.
