Redmond, who also played in the Premier League for Southampton and Norwich, is now hoping to earn a contract with Wednesday after transfer restrictions were lifted on the club.

Manager Henrik Pedersen is desperate for new faces and has already swooped for ex-Leeds defender Liam Cooper.

Along with Redmond, Wednesday have also welcomed ex-Sunderland Middlesbrough forward Duncan Watmore to their training ground.

The 31-year-old is on the hunt for a deal after leaving Millwall.

And like Redmond, Watmore has also been training with other Championship clubs this month.

But Wednesday boss Pedersen admits he can only afford to sign one for now.

He told BBC Sheffield: “The two names you spoke about (Redmond and Watmore) are training with us right now.

“We are still searching in the market for which players could be potential players for us.

“Right now we can sign one more. Let’s see what happens in the next few days.”

Reports claim Wednesday are also interested in doing a deal for Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

The versatile 27-year-old defender has been without a club for a year after leaving Bayer Leverkusen.

And his time in England with Manchester United, Crystal Palace and Fulham could see him in pole position for Wednesday’s coveted sole contract.

Five bids have so far been made to buy the Owls, who were put up for sale last month after falling into administration.

It marked an end to the disastrous reign of Thai businessman Dejphon Chansiri.

And there is now a growing confidence among administrators that a deal worth around £50million can be completed in the coming weeks.
